Projects

My main project at the moment is Relax and Recover.!! – a highly modular disaster recovery framework for GNU/Linux based systems.
Some of my other projects are hosted with this site, others may be hosted elsewhere.
The last project was on backup software namely Clonezilla and G4U which are disk image tools for backing up data. I really like clonezilla so you may check out Clonezilla

I’m not a free/Open Source/media nutjob per se, as in my opinion everybody should be free to share helpful material under their terms. I have a E-books site where I plan to host all or at least most of my available readable material.

Furthermore I occasionally report and fix issues on the Arusha Linux Users mailing list incl. some windows issues.
I’m also a volunatary addon editor, reviewing addons submitted to unix.or.tz before they can become public.

Launch of the ZALIS data Centre, built on open source technology using Ubuntu and KVM/Libvirt combo. Not forgetting the latest in Open Source storage solutions..CEPH.

Ceph storage (CEPH) is a distributed storage solution that allows you to scale horizontally with multiple machines/heads instead of the more traditional methodologies which use centralized heads with large amounts of storage attached to them.

The principle here is that you should be able to buy lots of inexpensive computers with a bunch of direct attached storage and just cluster them to achieve scalability. Also, without a central point of failure or performance bottleneck you should be able to scale beyond the limitations of our past storage architectures.

KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is a virtualization infrastructure for the Linux kernel that turns it into a hypervisor, which was merged into the Linux kernel mainline in February 2007. KVM requires a processor with hardware virtualization extension. Libvirt is a toolkit to interact with the virtualization capabilities of recent versions of Linux (and other OSes). This is a building block to KVM.

RE: YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED (PART 1): 😊

Easter Monday, 13.04.2020

A happy Easter Week to you all,

In this Lockdown post, we bring you PART 1 of our responses to 3 of your interesting and pertinent questions/inquiries regarding our Academy (The Royal Cubs):

Qn 1: You have one Senior Team participating in only one League (Basketball). Why a Multi-sport Academy rather than specializing at only Basketball?

Our response:
Thank you for the inquiry. Although we are majorly a Basketball Academy, our motto is "For a complete child". We believe that there are various skills enhanced by other sports which are inherently valuable to a Basketballer.

For example, Football improves one's footwork and role playing, Volleyball improves one's reflexes and team communication, Chess improves one's Strategy and Foresight, while Aerobics (Both Parents and Children) improves one's Coordination (Rhythm) and Fitness, among others.

These are skills relevant to the development of a complete Basketballer... hence our Academy's Strategy and Motto...For a complete child (again).

As you may already be aware, the biggest Clubs in conventional team sport actually have alternative sports disciplines e.g. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow etc all have other sports teams besides Football for which they are most popular. Their Footballers actually get to play the other sports too as part of their practice sessions. This is our planned sustainability model.

Qn 2: How do you manage all these activities at a go?

Our response:
We try as much as possible to be structured and professional in our Coaching Approach. After some serious research and studies, we developed an internal systematic approach, also merging other already existing approaches, both local and International.

Our 5 part Approach involves:

a) Goal setting: A set of goals to achieve at every session (Fundamentals and Game-based approach). Our goals are usually SMART (Simple, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time based).

b) Grouping based on Age, Size, Ability, pre-existing skill levels, Adaptation abilities, etc. This helps with breaking down the bigger goals into smaller and more achievable goals.

c) Stations and Rotations...every child gets a chance/shot at different skills/drills while managing time as well. The stations could be different Sports, or internally per Sport. The Grouping in (b) above helps us achieve this.

d) Our 5 step Teaching Methodology:
i) Coach's Explanation of a skill/drill and it's value
ii) Coach's Demonstration
iii) Player's Trial under Coach's observation
iv) Coach's Feedback (Correction)
v) Increasing levels of difficulty (gradually)

All Coaches are trained in this approach during the week before introduction to the little ones. And as you will observe from our pictures (attached), the Coaches operate together in teams as well.

e) Repetition, Repetition, Repetition!
The aim here is to have the child master the skill till they're at the level of #Unconscious_Competence (Second Nature). However, we use different approaches such as the game-based approach and role playing in order to keep it #FUN for the children while they pick up the skill.

The most important thing here is to keep it #FUN... in order to grow the child's interest in the Skill, the Sport and the Academy.

Qn 3: How do you manage Health and Safety at the Academy?

Our response:
a) External professional First Aid Attention:
Fortunately, before we started the Academy, we had already secured a partnership with a renown health service provider in Kampala, Abii Clinic. At all our Academy sessions, there is a qualified and professional medical nurse from Abii Clinic physically present on site to handle first aid cases. He/She is usually dressed in Abii Uniform or will have an Abii neck-tag or ID and operates with gloves and other protective gear.

In addition, Abii has recently secured an Ambulance for which we are in advanced talks to have present at all our Academy sessions and Senior Basketball League Games. Also, we have already agreed on a free First Aid Clinic for all our Coaches, Academy Parents and well-wishers (Courtesy of Abii Clinic). We shall communicate the dates soon.

b) Club's own First Aid Box:
As a Club, we have our own First Aid Box as a backup plan. Interestingly, this was donated to us by Abii Clinic at the start of the league season last year (2019) a year before the Academy began. For all these, we can't thank Abii Clinic enough!

c) New Hand-wash Water Dispenser:
Also, fortunately, just before the COVID-19 Pandemic had gotten more aggressive, one of our well-wishers (an Academy Parent) donated a Water dispenser to the Royal Cubs Academy for the children to wash their hands at every water-break and before and after practice. For such kindness we shall forever be grateful.

d) Life Skills for the Children (Hygiene):
In addition to the Sports, we try to impart life skills in the Academy children, one of which is to ensure that the playing grounds are clean and safe both before and after the sessions. Also, we have a hired and paid specialized Cleaner who handles the Lavatories (Toilets) as part of our Temporary Staff. Hand-wash and Tissue have always been available too.

e) Going Forward:
When we resume after the COVID-19 Lockdown is lifted, we intend to beef up on the availability of hand sanitizers as well as availing the parents and children with more health related tips/information as we indulge in contact Sports. We understand that diseases like COVID-19, Hepatitis B, Ebola, Cholera etc. are real and we have to keep ahead of the game.

Also, we hope to raise some funds to avail the community children with the right foot-gear (sneakers) for these activities (See pics attached). Any support out there would be more than welcome. 🙏🏾

Bottom Line: The Health and Safety of our participants (Children and Adults) comes first...and this is why our first corporate partner is a medical health service provider!

Final Remarks:
Thank you for your time and for persevering through the long read. Please feel free to inbox us or reach us directly (Phone/Email) with your inquiries and/or advice.

Stay Safe, Stay Clean, Wash your hands, Maintain Social Distancing, and continue to follow the Ministry of Health Guidelines! We will get through this stronger!
